Stories of Hope- 2021 emergency food distributions

On 6th June 2021, President Yowreri Museveni ordered Uganda into an initial period of 42 days of lockdown with a review which then extended the restrictions again in July. These restrictions impacted on people movements and transport use, and closures of all schools were implemented. The consequences of lockdown, combined with increased covid infection rates had once again hit our families hard.

Covid cases had risen sharply, hospitals were overwhelmed, and many could not get treatment, and sadly died. These tighter restrictions seemed to have helped somewhat, which has been crucial given that covid vaccination rates are very low in Uganda.

For a country of 44 million, and only an around 200 ICU beds, trying to live through a pandemic with no vaccinations, whilst living in poverty within a slum, makes the outlook for being unwell with Covid very daunting indeed.

But, there is hope….thanks to donations made by TFCM supporters, we have been able to once again divert some additional funds to help support all of our sponsored children, our befriended grannies and their extended families by providing them with some emergency food distributions. Having some provisions of food, masks and soaps has been a great blessing to these people, and they are so grateful for the support that the TFCM family network brings.
